Kuwait: Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah made a significant move by signing a decree that transformed the Planning Council into an independent entity attached to the cabinet. This body is tasked with the preparation and supervision of economic, social, and housing policies.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the 1976 establishment of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) was initiated by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. KFAS aims to support researchers by providing scholarships, training programs, and awards. In 1981, the Kuwait Banking Committee was founded to enhance cooperation and coordination among local banks, thereby strengthening the national economy.
The year 1983 was marked by a series of six explosions that targeted key locations, including the US and French embassies, Kuwait Airport, and residences of American technicians in Bidaa area. Four individuals lost their lives, and 62 others were injured. The Islamic Jihad Organization (IJO) claimed responsibility for these attacks.
In 1996, the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) announced the completion of repayment of an international loan obtained in 1991 for rebuilding efforts following the Iraqi invasion. The State of Kuwait became a party to the UN Convention on Transnational Organized Crime in 2000. In 2004, Dr. Mustafa Al-Mosawi, head of Hamed Al-Essa Organ Transplant Center, was elected President of the Middle East Society for Organ Transplants (MESOT) for the years 2005-06.
Kuwait's collaboration with NATO was formalized through a cooperation deal in 2006. The following year, Kuwait's Shooting Team achieved victory in the men's skeet category at the 11th Asian Tournament held in Kuwait, and the Ministry of Health inaugurated the new 846-bed Psychology Hospital building.
In 2009, Kuwaiti athlete Abdullah Al-Thuwaini set a new world school record in the 100 meters backstroke swimming at the world tournament in Qatar, finishing in 55.85 seconds. The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed a loan agreement with North Korea in 2012, worth six million Kuwaiti dinars (USD 20.4 million), to fund a road project.
The Ministry of Interior won the Arab best educational and awareness video prize organized by the council of Arab Interior Ministers in 2018. Additionally, the Ministry of Information launched a test broadcast of the Kuwait children channel "Atfal Al-Kuwait" that same year.
In 2023, the Kuwait National Assembly approved amendments to Law (68) of 1980, eliminating the local agent requirement for foreign companies wishing to operate in the country. More recently, in 2024, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed a grant agreement worth USD 315,000 with the Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization (AIDSMO), and the Ministry of Health introduced an RFID system to improve blood transfusion procedures.
