Kuwait city: Today in Kuwait's history, numerous significant events have marked the country's progress and achievements. The Kuwait National Museum inaugurated the Planetarium, Al-Muhallab traditional Boom (Ship), and Traditional Village, which depict Kuwait's history before the 1940s.
According to Kuwait News Agency, in 2009, the United Nations House opened a new headquarters in Kuwait, housing five Kuwait-based UN agencies and international organizations. In 2012, the Bayt Abdullah Children Hospice, an NGO, began offering services for critically ill children and their families, focusing on pain management and its effects.
In 2016, Kuwait was selected as the Islamic Cultural Capital, launching related activities with the opening of the 22nd Al-Qurain Cultural Festival. That same year, Dr. Abdullah Al-Ghunaim, President of the Center for Research and Studies on Kuwait, won the King Faisal Prize for Islamic Studies.
Kuwait's sporting achievements were highlighted in 2018 when it won the Amir International Shooting Championship, securing seven gold, two silver, and one bronze medals. Additionally, the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) was recognized as the best company for exploration and production for 2017 by International Finance during a ceremony in Dubai, UAE.
In 2019, Kuwait demonstrated its commitment to international aid by presenting USD 9.1 million to UN agencies to support the humanitarian situation in Syria. Two years later, in 2021, Kuwait's Amir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, signed a decree approving the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and the cabinet, tasking them to continue as a caretaker government until a new one was formed.
The National Assembly's involvement in governance was evident in 2022 when it discussed a grill of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah. In 2023, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) announced its registration of six patents at the US Patent and Trademark Office in 2022, raising its total patents since 2010 to 50, along with completing 20 scientific research projects in 2022.
Looking to the future, in 2024, the Asian Wheelchair Basketball Federation elected Kuwait's representative, Shafi Al-Hajri, as president for a four-year term, showcasing Kuwait's growing influence in international sports governance.
