Kuwait city: Kuwait's Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Acting Minister of Finance, and Acting Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment Dr. Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem stated that the 10th anniversary of the General Electric (GE) Vernova Technology Center in Kuwait underscores the strength of bilateral strategic cooperation and its role in supporting Kuwait Vision 2035.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem highlighted at a ceremony organized by the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) and GE Vernova, under the aegis and attendance of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, that Kuwait's long-term development priorities, outlined in the National Development Plan (NDP), rely on deep integration between academia, research, and industry to construct a diversified, sustainable, knowledge-based economy.
The training center within the facility has facilitated the upskilling of 1,500 engineers globally, providing young and experienced Kuwaiti and foreign professionals with specialized skills in power generation. This initiative has generated employment and directly supports Kuwait Vision 2035's human capital goals.
Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem explained that the site's engineering center serves as a leading platform for technology services and fosters innovation, particularly in Kuwait's energy sector. It stands as GE Vernova's only center globally capable of swiftly simulating complex turbine control issues.
Vice President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for GE Vernova's Gas Power business across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, Joseph Anis, remarked that GE Vernova has been a strategic partner to Kuwait's energy sector for 50 years. The 10th anniversary of the technology center in Kuwait celebrates this enduring cooperation and symbolizes a strategic partnership with the State to advance local innovation and build national capabilities to support the country's energy transition.
Anis noted that the center, with its global reach and robust local capabilities, is instrumental in reinforcing Kuwait's position as a regional and international hub for advanced energy solutions. Its role extends beyond technical work to active community engagement through comprehensive social responsibility programs.
These programs include strategic partnerships with universities, training and qualification initiatives for promising talent, educational field visits for students, and various community initiatives. The center frequently organizes specialized engineering competitions to encourage interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), thereby directly aiding in building the capacities of Kuwaiti youth and promoting a culture of innovation. This makes it a national platform for preparing future leaders in the energy and technology sectors.
Established in 2015, the center is a cornerstone in supporting the transformation of the energy sector. Spanning 6,000 square meters, it houses advanced training, equipment, and engineering facilities operated by a team of Kuwaiti professionals. It is the first site of its kind outside the US and reflects GE Vernova's long-term commitment to Kuwait, its people, and the broader region. It also supports KDIPA's objectives of attracting foreign direct investment that accelerates technology transfer and skills development.
