Kuwait City: Kuwait's Diving Team announced on Wednesday that they will be undertaking major environmental projects throughout 2024. These projects include various volunteer activities aimed at spreading environmental awareness under the initiative "Our Sea."
According to Kuwait News Agency, the team's head, Waleed Al-Fadhel, revealed that their efforts have been recognized with the World Energy Foundation Award, based in Austria, for their distinguished environmental work. Al-Fadhel emphasized the team's commitment to continuing their efforts to achieve further local and international success.
Al-Fadhel highlighted the team's significant achievements in protecting and monitoring coral reefs, removing tons of waste and sunken ships, and securing maritime navigation. These efforts were conducted in collaboration with several governmental and civil entities. The team has also been actively involved in continuous campaigns to clean Kuwait's coasts and islands. They have undertaken the installation and comprehensive maintenance of marine anchors in coral reef sites and completed 130 environmental and volunteer missions, averaging one activity every three days.
Furthermore, Al-Fadhel reported that the team has removed 100 tons of neglected fishing nets and waste harmful to the marine and coastal environment, covering more than 30 sites along Kuwait's coasts and sea. The team has also made strides in developing their online presence, successfully using social media to publish images and short films that highlight environmental issues and showcase their accomplishments in serving the marine environment.
