Kuwait’s Assistant FM Advocates for Youth Empowerment and Recovery Initiatives

Jeddah: The State of Kuwait Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, highlighted the significance of fostering cooperation within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to create joint programs aimed at enhancing youth capacities. Ambassador Al-Sabah expressed these views during a high-level meeting held as part of the 26th regular session of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the OIC at the organization's headquarters in Jeddah.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Al-Sabah expressed gratitude to the commission for addressing issues pertinent to many OIC member states, emphasizing the role of youth as essential partners in peacebuilding, recovery, and development. She drew upon Kuwait's experience following the 1990 invasion, where the crisis underscored the critical role of young people in defending the nation, organizing community efforts, and restoring essential services after liberation.

Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher also addressed the challenging humanitarian conditions affecting several OIC member states, including Palestine, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, Syria, and Libya. She pointed out that young people in these regions continue to face poverty, displacement, disrupted education, and limited job opportunities. She stressed that Kuwait views the integration of youth into relief and recovery efforts as a strategic necessity for achieving stability and sustainable development.

In her remarks, Ambassador Al-Sabah detailed Kuwait's support for youth-focused initiatives through mechanisms like the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), partnerships with the United Nations, and regional and bilateral programs. These initiatives encompass rebuilding schools, hospitals, and community centers, providing educational and training scholarships, and financing youth entrepreneurship and innovation. She reaffirmed Kuwait's dedication to empowering young individuals in peacebuilding programs, aligning with UN Security Council Resolutions 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security and 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.
