Kuwait City: Kuwait's Salman Al-Kanderi came in 10th place on Tuesday at the Asian freestyle skiing competition in the northeastern Chinese city of Harbin, marking the first-ever appearance by a Kuwaiti athlete in this winter sport. The piercing cold weather was not a deterrent for the participating athletes, who fought tooth and nail in what was a tightly-contested affair, Al-Kanderi said in a statement, underlining the experience as a career-altering event. According to Kuwait News Agency, the contest was part of the ongoing Asian Winter Games held in Harbin, known as China's "ice city," which was inaugurated by Chinese President Xi Jinping last Friday.
