Kuwaiti Minister Highlights Family Support as National Priority

Ankara: The State of Kuwait Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila, emphasized the importance of supporting Kuwaiti families during a side event titled "Circle of Care: Families Supporting the Young, the Elderly and People with Disabilities," organized by the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Ankara. This event took place on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development held in Doha, Qatar.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Huwaila stated that empowering families to support all of their members is a national priority, reflecting Kuwait's commitment to the humanitarian and social principles established by its Constitution. She highlighted the family's role as the foundation of human and social welfare, describing it as a network of mutual care where individuals play a crucial role.

Al-Huwaila pointed out the challenges faced by families, such as balancing work and childcare, which necessitates public policies that provide supportive measures like daycare services and family leave. She referenced the Kuwaiti Constitution's emphasis on family importance in Articles 9 and 10, noting the state's responsibility for the young's care and protection.

She reviewed Kuwait's services for families, including comprehensive childcare services, maternal and child care programs, early intervention for special needs children, and social allowances to ease economic burdens. For the elderly, services include home care, psychological and social support, and the "Priority" card initiative for easier access to services.

For people with disabilities, Kuwait offers financial allowances, support in housing, healthcare, education, and employment, along with administrative facilities like fee exemptions and physiotherapy services. In conclusion, Al-Huwaila expressed appreciation for the event's efforts in fostering cooperation and expertise exchange to enhance family support.
