Kuwaiti Cabinet Lauds New Oil Discovery in North Wafra Partitioned Zone

KUWAIT CITY: During its weekly session, the Kuwaiti cabinet praised the recent oil discovery in the northern part of Wafra, a partitioned zone between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, highlighting its significance for future energy sector cooperation.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Council of Ministers convened at Bayan Palace, led by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sherida Abdullah Al-Muasherji conveyed the cabinet's acknowledgment of the new discovery. At the meeting's onset, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude towards His Highness the Amir, the Crown Prince, the First Deputy Prime Minister, and the ministers for their support.

Additionally, the Health Minister, Dr. Ahmed Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi, briefed the cabinet on Kuwait's recognition at the World Health Assembly in Geneva. Kuwait received the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Global Award for Promoting Elderly Health, underscoring its commitment to top-tier elderly care.

The Minister of Oil, Tariq Sulaiman Al-Roumi, informed the cabinet about the joint announcement by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia regarding the North Wafra oil discovery. The discovery, located five kilometers north of the Wafra field, marks a milestone since the resumption of production operations in 2020. Crude oil from the Wara reservoir flowed at over 500 barrels per day, with an API gravity of 26 to 27 degrees. Al-Roumi emphasized the discovery's impact on enhancing both countries' positions in global oil supply and exploration capabilities.

The cabinet also reviewed achievements by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for the fiscal year 2024/2025. Key accomplishments include increased coordination with Gulf and Arab nations, resulting in 24 new agreements related to flight operations and technical collaboration, alongside infrastructure upgrades at Kuwait International Airport.

In appreciation, the cabinet commended the efforts of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and related authorities in advancing the Terminal 2 project. The session concluded with discussions on agenda items, including the Supreme Committee on Kuwaiti Citizenship's report on citizenship status changes, in accordance with Law No. 15 of 1959.
