Doha: Kuwait’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Development and International Cooperation Affairs and Chair of the Committee for the Implementation of Security Council Resolutions, Ambassador Hamad Al-Meshaan, reviewed the contributions and achievements of Kuwait and Kenya since they began their joint chairmanship of the Working Group on East Africa of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) at the start of 2024.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Al-Meshaan delivered a statement on behalf of the East Africa Working Group during the first session of the 25th meeting of the GCTF Coordinating Committee, held in Doha. He highlighted that Kuwait hosted a workshop in October of the previous year titled “Disengagement, Deradicalization, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration” in collaboration with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT). Additionally, Kuwait organized a GCTF experts meeting on “Enhancing International Judicial Cooperation and Handling Evidence in Terrorism Cases” on October 15-16 of this year.
Ambassador Al-Meshaan also noted that Kenya hosted two significant events in Nairobi. The first, held on May 30, 2025, was a workshop on “Motivational Disengagement Training for Security Officers,” which addressed practices in disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration. The second event, on September 2-3, 2025, focused on “The Role of Women in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism.” He mentioned that the East Africa Working Group plans to organize additional events soon, including one hosted by Kuwait in January on “Protecting Virtual Spaces through Strategic Communications” and a joint meeting between the East and West Africa Working Groups in March in Nairobi.
The 25th meeting of the GCTF Coordinating Committee commenced on Monday in Doha, hosted by Qatar from October 20 to 22, under the co-chairmanship of Egypt and the European Union.
