New york: The State of Kuwait, on behalf of the Gulf Group at the United Nations, has issued a warning about the decision of the Israeli occupation to reoccupy the Gaza Strip, including intentions to fully occupy and control it. This was conveyed by Kuwaiti Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Tareq Al-Bannai, during a UN Security Council session focused on the Palestinian issue.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Bannai reiterated the Gulf Group's commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause and rejecting occupation in all its forms. He emphasized that a full-scale invasion of Gaza could have regional repercussions, potentially escalating violence. Al-Bannai stressed the responsibility of the international community to take action, warning that silence and inaction could have significant consequences.
He highlighted the ongoing violations by the Israeli occupation, suggesting they demonstrate a selective application of international laws. Al-Bannai called for urgent measures to protect the Palestinian people and their aid, and to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), while rejecting any attempts to undermine its role.
Al-Bannai also affirmed the support of GCC countries for these initiatives, expressing the Gulf Group's readiness to enhance coordination with international partners to help break the cycle of violence. He referenced a high-level international conference aimed at peacefully resolving the Palestinian issue and implementing a two-state solution, welcoming the recognition of Palestine by numerous countries.
The Kuwaiti delegate condemned the continued Israeli occupation violations in Jerusalem and the West Bank, including settlement expansion, eviction and displacement, and repeated incursions into Islamic and Christian holy sites.
