Kuwait city: The State of Kuwait has called for the enhancement of United Nations mechanisms aimed at monitoring Islamophobia and addressing manifestations of hatred against Muslims. The country expressed its full support for the efforts of U.N. Special Rapporteurs in combating discrimination and hatred.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Kuwaiti Diplomatic Attach© at the U.N., Abeer Al-Methen, delivered a statement before the U.N. General Assembly's social, humanitarian, and cultural committee. This was under the agenda item "Promotion and Protection of the Rights of the Child." Al-Methen emphasized Kuwait's belief that human diversity is a source of strength and that respecting differences is fundamental for achieving coherence and peace. She highlighted that Kuwait is home to people from over 170 nationalities, creating a harmonious human fabric that reflects values of tolerance and justice.
The Kuwaiti diplomat also raised concerns about the increasing manifestations of Islamophobia and religious hatred, warning that these trends threaten the social fabric and undermine values of human respect. Al-Methen praised the efforts of the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, Nazla Ghanea, for highlighting the alarming rise in hatred against Muslims. She quoted Ghanea, stating that Islamophobia is the fastest-growing form of religious discrimination globally.
