Kuwait Underlines Ironclad Belief in Human Rights Treaties

Cairo: Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Duaij Al-Sabah emphasized Kuwait's strong commitment to international human rights conventions and treaties, particularly the Arab Charter on Human Rights. She made these remarks during her participation in a meeting of the states parties to the charter at the Arab League headquarters, which focused on a Libyan proposal to revise the election mechanism for the committee members outlined in Para III of Article 45 of the charter's statute.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Sheikha Jawaher expressed her hope that member states could reach an agreement to amend the mechanism and increase the number of committee members from 18, ensuring representation from all 22 Arab League member states. She stressed the importance of revising the statute with a comprehensive vision reflecting the consensus among states parties to the charter.

Sheikha Jawaher highlighted the critical role of the Arab charter's committee in monitoring the implementation of state commitments and promoting human rights across the Arab region. She reiterated Kuwait's dedication to advancing joint Arab action in support of human rights initiatives.
