Kuwait Transparency Society: 91 observers monitor ’22 parliamentary elections Thurs.

Some 91 observers will monitor the 2022 National Assembly Elections scheduled on September 29, Thursday, said an official for the Kuwait Transparency Society Sunday.

Speaking to KUNA, Secretary for the Transparency Society Asrar Hayat indicated that observers would make sure that the voting process was going according to rules and regulations set by competent authorities.

This includes that voters would be voting freely without influencing or affecting their choice, she affirmed.

Hayat pointed out that observers would not interfere in the organizational aspect of the voting, but the society would inform authorities of any serious violations.

Hayat revealed that a report would be issued after the elections process to point out the positives and negatives of what have occurred, saying that the document would be referred to the legislative and executive in addition to being proclaimed in a press conference.

On the importance of the report, Hayat said that the issuing of such documents would reflect Kuwait’s keenness on transparency and would be of use in improving the status of Kuwait in global transparency rankings.

The Kuwait Transparency Society had been involved in monitoring elections since 2008 and had host several international delegations during such occasions, she affirmed; however, this election would not future such delegations due to “time constraints”.

The observers for the upcoming elections had been adequately trained for the task, indicated Hayat.

The official said that the society had been involved in monitoring elections abroad in addition to cooperating with the legislative and executive powers to formulate several draft laws including the establishment of an anti-corruption authority amongst others.
