Kuwait Stresses Global Action on Humanitarian Crises at UN Human Rights Council

Geneva: The Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen, highlighted the urgent need for global action to address humanitarian crises during the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council. He emphasized Kuwait's diplomatic efforts to unify Gulf and regional positions in urging the international community to protect human rights and uphold human dignity worldwide.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Al-Hayen, who also leads the GCC Ambassadors' Council, stated that Kuwait and the GCC group have made significant efforts to mobilize international support against violations and genocide, particularly against Palestinians in Gaza. The UN's famine declaration in Gaza and the findings of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry accusing Israeli occupation forces of genocide were cited as urgent calls for the international community to act against these crimes and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Ambassador Al-Hayen reiterated Kuwait's commitment to political and humanitarian efforts at international levels and through UN mechanisms to end these tragedies. He noted that the Human Rights Council, at the GCC states' request, decided to hold an urgent meeting to discuss the recent Israeli attack on Qatar, reflecting the Gulf states' dedication to international law and opposition to violations of state sovereignty.

He further explained the importance of this step in sending a clear message against threats to international peace and security. The session also held significance for Kuwait as the Council adopted the outcome of Kuwait's fourth Universal Periodic Review, marking a milestone in Kuwait's human rights efforts.

Ambassador Al-Hayen affirmed Kuwait's commitment to implement accepted recommendations and transform them into actionable policies, with broad commendation from member states for Kuwait's achievements. He emphasized that Kuwait will continue its humanitarian and mediating role within the UN system in line with its commitment to justice and human rights.

The UN Human Rights Council concluded its 60th session by adopting resolutions to strengthen human dignity, including those promoting human rights through the rule of law and accountability, as well as affirming civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights, and the right to development.
