Kuwait City: The second edition of Kuwait Sports Day, organized by the Public Authority for Sports, commenced on Saturday on Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Causeway with participation from approximately 21,000 contestants. The event featured a 5 km walking race and a 20 km cycling race, with participants setting off from Shuwaikh Port and finishing at the southern island of the bridge.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the day also included various sports and entertainment activities, group competitions, parachute shows, and musical performances. Health clubs, restaurants, and cafes were actively involved in the event. In a press statement, Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi highlighted that the significant turnout underscores the role sports play in Kuwaiti society across all ages and demographics.
Minister Al-Mutairi further noted that the event demonstrates Kuwait's commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for sports activities, showcasing a collaborative effort from institutions nationwide. Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Sports Bashar Abdullah stated to KUNA that establishing this day as an annual event enhances community awareness of the importance of sports, aligning with the Authority's strategic goals. This year's event saw broader participation than the previous year, involving diverse segments of society.
Ambassador of Korea to Kuwait Chung Sook Park, a participant from the diplomatic missions, expressed his delight to KUNA in joining the celebration alongside members of his embassy and Korean citizens. He appreciated the event's atmosphere, noting that walking over the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Bridge had personal significance due to its construction by a Korean company. Meanwhile, Dr. Meshal Ramadan, a board member of the Kuwait Sports Federation, emphasized the federation's dedication to its societal role in promoting sports awareness.
