Kuwait City: Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Dr. Mahmoud Bushehri informed the Cabinet about a significant development in Kuwait's energy sector. The ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding with ABC Transco Limited Energy and General Electric Vernova to establish a gas-powered electricity-generating station with a total capacity of up to 3,000 megawatts. This initiative aligns with the government's strategic vision and aims to involve the private sector in development projects, particularly in power generation under the independent supplier system.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Cabinet also celebrated the upcoming state events, extending congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. The flag-raising ceremony at Bayan Palace on February 2, 2025, will mark the beginning of the Independence Day and Liberation Day celebrations.
Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Noura Al-Fassam briefed the Cabinet on her participation in the World Economic Forum in Davos. She represented His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at the event, which took place from January 20 to 24.
Additionally, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Al-Yahya reported on his visit to Lebanon, accompanied by GCC Secretary-General Jasem Al-Budaiwi. He met with several Lebanese leaders, emphasizing the GCC's support for Lebanon's sovereignty and urging necessary reforms to address current crises.
The Cabinet also reviewed financial controllers' reports for the fiscal years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025. These were referred to the Government Performance Follow-up Agency for further action. The Cabinet debated various topics and approved measures including the minutes from the Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Citizenship, which addressed cases of citizenship loss, withdrawal, and revocation, in alignment with Decree Law No. (15) of 1959.
