KUWAIT: Today in Kuwait's history, the Al-Maaref (education) department opened Kuwait School in Karachi to teach Kuwaitis and Arab expatriates living in Pakistan the Arabic Language and Islam. This significant initiative aimed to provide educational support to the Kuwaitis and Arab community residing in Pakistan, fostering a connection to their language and religious roots while living abroad. According to Kuwait News Agency, several other notable events have marked Kuwait's historical timeline. In 1975, the State of Kuwait witnessed the opening of its first book fair held at the Faculty of Sciences in Kuwait University. This milestone event marked the beginning of a cultural tradition that continues to enrich the intellectual landscape of the nation. In 1990, amidst the backdrop of the Iraqi invasion and occupation of Kuwait, the first edition of the "Voice of Kuwait" newspaper was published. The Britain-based paper, led by chief editor Dr. Mohammad Al-Rumaihi, served as a crucial platform for communicatio n and information dissemination during a tumultuous period in Kuwait's history. One year later, in 1991, the Al-Babtain center for burns and cosmetic surgery commenced operations. As the first specialized center of its kind in the Middle East, it represented a significant advancement in medical care and offered crucial services to those in need. In the realm of legislation, a new traffic law took effect in 2001, introducing rules and penalties concerning license plates, license withdrawal, and vehicle impounding. This law aimed to enhance road safety and enforce stricter regulations on the roads of Kuwait. Kuwait's sporting achievements were highlighted in 2007 and 2011. The Kuwaiti shooting team clinched the gold medal during the Asian skeet championship in the Philippines in 2007. Later, in 2011, the Kuwaiti team excelled in the Arab skeet tournament held in Morocco, securing eight gold medals, four silver, and two bronze, showcasing the nation's prowess in the sport. In 2016, demonstrating its commitme nt to humanitarian efforts, the State of Kuwait donated USD four million to support UNICEF's activities in Syria and neighboring countries. This generous contribution aimed to aid relief efforts and provide assistance to those affected by the ongoing crisis. Most recently, in 2019, Kuwait Airways expanded its fleet with the acquisition of the new Al-Jahra (A320neo) aircraft from Airbus. This addition marked a step forward in the national carrier's efforts to modernize its fleet and enhance its service offerings.
