Kuwait Represents at Qatar’s Second World Summit for Social Development

Doha: His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah is set to represent His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar. This significant event is scheduled for Tuesday and is organized under the auspices of the United Nations.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the summit commemorates the 30th anniversary of the first World Summit for Social Development and the adoption of the Copenhagen Declaration and Program of Action. This pivotal initiative committed world leaders to eradicate poverty, promote full employment, and construct inclusive societies. The summit is recognized as a vision for the 21st century, based on dignity, equity, and shared prosperity.

Last September, Qatari Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina Al-Nuaimi highlighted the summit's role as a milestone in shaping the future of the social development agenda. It aims to promote sustainable development globally. Sheikh Alya Al-Thani, Qatar's Permanent Delegate to the UN, emphasized during a briefing in New York that the adoption of the Doha Political Declaration would recommit nations to the promises made in Copenhagen in 1995 and accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

Hosting the summit in Doha cements Qatar's status as a strategic partner of the United Nations. The event will gather over 8,000 participants, including representatives from Member States, the United Nations system, and key stakeholders such as parliamentarians, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector. These participants are united in their commitment to social justice and translating this into concrete actions for sustainable development.

Sheikha Alya noted that the "Doha Political Declaration" will serve as a global call to action, renewing commitments to create environments that support inclusive social development. The summit will feature key events, including the inaugural meeting of the "Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty" and the "Doha Solutions Forum for Social Development." These events aim to drive innovative and practical initiatives during the summit, which will continue until November 6.
