Kuwait Reiterates Support for Ending Economic Embargo on Cuba

Kuwait city: The State of Kuwait reaffirmed its unwavering support for the United Nations' efforts to lift the economic embargo on Cuba, aligning with its principled stance against unilateral measures and in accordance with international law norms.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Alyaa Al-Qtaifi, a diplomatic attache, emphasized Kuwait's commitment to the UN Charter during a UN session in New York. She highlighted the importance of respecting state sovereignty, avoiding interference in domestic affairs, and adhering to international law rules that oppose unilateral actions negatively impacting populations.

Al-Qtaifi stated that Kuwait views development as essential for maintaining international peace and security. Kuwait has supported global initiatives for implementing the UN's 2030 sustainable development goals and contributed to development and humanitarian projects in various nations, advocating for cooperation and social solidarity as pathways to stability and prosperity. She expressed optimism that diplomatic efforts, open policies, and dialogue would contribute to regional and international peace and stability.

Al-Qtaifi noted the international community's longstanding rejection of the embargo on Cuba, citing its detrimental impact on critical sectors like health, food, education, energy, and trade. Official statements from Cuba in May 2025 disclosed that the blockade, in place for over six decades, had caused losses exceeding USD 170 billion, hindering development and social welfare for the Cuban populace.

Kuwait stands firm in supporting UN General Assembly resolutions that call for the immediate and unconditional end to the economic-commercial-financial blockade on Cuba, in line with international law and the UN Charter, to promote justice, development, and people's right to dignity.

Kuwait also emphasizes the significance of adhering to UN principles that respect the equality of peoples' rights and enhance international cooperation for sustainable development as a basis for global security and peace. Aligning with the UNGA 80th session's theme, "by acting together, we attain better results," Kuwait asserts that global efforts should converge to find equitable solutions to alleviate the hardships faced by the Cuban people and foster new opportunities for constructive dialogue and cooperation.
