Kuwait city: Kuwait has re-affirmed its commitment to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aligning with its national development plan, neo Kuwait vision 2035. This plan aims to enhance Kuwait's role as a financial, commercial, and cultural hub in the Gulf region.
According to Kuwait News Agency, this affirmation was delivered by Diplomatic Attache at the Department of Human Rights of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hanan Al-Sultan, during the 12th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development in Geneva. This session marked the 40th anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on the Right to Development.
Al-Sultan emphasized that development extends beyond economic pursuits, incorporating economic, social, cultural, and political dimensions. These efforts aim to promote individual and societal well-being while upholding human dignity and social justice.
She reiterated Kuwait's determination to advance its development agenda through national policies that encourage active citizen participation based on equality and non-discrimination principles, ensuring fair distribution of resources and opportunities.
Al-Sultan also renewed Kuwait's pledge to fulfill its commitments as a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2024-2026 term. She underscored the country's dedication to meeting international human rights obligations and cooperating with the United Nations and the global community to advance the right to development.
The diplomat highlighted the contributions of Kuwaiti women and youth and their roles across various fields. This reflects Kuwait's aspirations for inclusive and sustainable growth and its spirit of innovation and civic responsibility in building a progressive society.
She further noted Kuwait's role in supporting international development efforts, acknowledging the challenges faced by developing nations. In this regard, she cited the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, which has financed projects in 107 countries since its establishment in 1961.
Al-Sultan explained that these initiatives reaffirm Kuwait's belief in international solidarity and humanitarian cooperation, emphasizing its commitment to providing essential support to countries in need, contributing to global security and sustainable development.
She reiterated Kuwait's commitment to working alongside international partners to promote the right to development, reinforce justice and equality, and build a sustainable future that ensures human dignity and paves the way for future prosperity and security.
