Kuwait PM Presides Over Meeting on Sino-Kuwaiti Agreements

Kuwait city: His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah chaired the 31st ministerial committee meeting focused on the implementation of agreements between Kuwait and China. The meeting updated participants on cooperation and joint coordination areas, particularly in sustainable development.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized the strong commercial, economic, and investment relationship with China, highlighted by significant trade volumes. He noted the growing economic ties and urged the ministerial committee to ensure the full and timely implementation of agreements.

Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, Abdullatif Al-Mishari, stated the government's ongoing commitment to development, focusing on strategic infrastructural and housing projects like the Al-Sabriya housing project. One Chinese company expressed interest in the project, but the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) decided not to award it due to execution risks. PAHW plans to divide the project to allow for competitive development.

Al-Mishari clarified that the company proposed KD 1.9 billion for the project, contradicting reports of USD seven billion. The proposal included state-borne costs for infrastructural buildings. He suggested that implementing Law No. 118 of 2023 could reduce the project's total cost through public-private partnerships.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Asia Affairs, Ambassador Sameeh Hayat, briefed the committee on joint projects with Chinese officials, including a planned visit by Chinese government company officials to discuss a Memorandum of Understanding on recycling low-carbon waste.

Attendees included Chief of His Highness the Prime Minister's Diwan Abdulaziz Al-Dakheel, Minister of Defense Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, and other key officials.
