Geneva: The State of Kuwait emphasized its commitment to supporting international health organizations and initiatives aimed at improving global healthcare. This was stated by Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen, following the conclusion of the 78th World Health Assembly held in Geneva from May 19 to May 27.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Al-Hayen highlighted Kuwait’s dedication to working with the World Health Organization and other entities to provide quality healthcare globally. He pointed to the high-level delegation led by Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi as evidence of this commitment. The ambassador also praised a special ceremony at the Assembly where the award of His Highness the late Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was presented, emphasizing Kuwait’s humanitarian vision and support for vulnerable groups.
Ambassador Al-Hayen expressed pride in the Elderly Services D
epartment at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health for jointly winning the 2025 His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Prize for Research in Health Care for the Elderly and in Health Promotion. He also congratulated Chinese professor Huali Wang for sharing the award, recognizing contributions to China’s healthy aging and dementia action plans.
The ambassador highlighted Kuwait’s role in supporting the Palestinian people through various resolutions at the Assembly. Kuwait participated in submitting a draft resolution to raise the Palestinian flag at the WHO headquarters and supported resolutions for immediate ceasefire and healthcare access in occupied Palestinian territories.
Ambassador Al-Hayen also stressed Kuwait’s role in the adoption of the first Pandemics Agreement at the World Health Assembly, aiming for a coordinated international response to future health crises. This agreement seeks to address gaps exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on prevention, preparedness, and international coo
peration.
Addressing funding crises for international organizations, the ambassador mentioned Kuwait’s efforts to mobilize support for sustainable funding for entities like the World Health Organization, ensuring they can fulfill their duties to vulnerable countries in crisis situations.
