Kuwait on Ukraine: States’ sovereignty must be respected

KUWAIT, The State of Kuwait on Tuesday re-affirmed its stance toward the Ukrainian crisis, asserting in this respect the principle of safeguarding states’ sovereignty.

The ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement that the Kuwaiti stand was manifested by the minister, Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, during a reception of the Ukrainian Ambassador, Oleksandr Balanutsa, to discuss latest developments concerning the Ukrainian crisis.

Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah, during the meeting with the envoy, affirmed the State of Kuwait’s stance toward this crisis that calls for adherence to principles of the international law, the United Nations Charter and the principled states’ sovereignty, independence and territorial sanctity with the internationally recognized borders.

He emphasized necessity of backing up international efforts aimed at ceasing the fire, lowering escalation and finding a peaceful solution to the crisis in line with the principle of resolving disputes and strifes with peaceful means, through dialogue and in line with the international law and the UN charter.

For his part, the ambassador conveyed greetings from the Ukrainian president and people to the State of Kuwait — leadership, government and people — praising its support for the Ukrainian nation particularly at the humanitarian level.

He also lauded Kuwait’s support for international efforts designed to taper off the humanitarian suffering in Ukraine, its good-will efforts for solidifying international peace and security.
