Kuwait City: The State of Kuwait is observing World Health Day under the theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” as part of a year-long campaign initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO) aimed at raising awareness about maternal and newborn health.
According to Kuwait News Agency, WHO has urged governments and the global health community to intensify efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates by providing improved healthcare during pregnancy and childbirth. A recent study by WHO highlights that approximately 300,000 women die due to birth complications annually, with over a million newborns dying within the first month of life, and around one million stillbirths.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, the official spokesman for Kuwait’s Health Ministry, emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to offering comprehensive healthcare for mothers and children. He noted that the country’s pregnancy and infant-care programs are continuously enhanced to deliver optimal medical support, aligning with Kuwait Vision 2035’s focus on advancing national healthcare.
Dr. Amal Khedher, head of the Ministry of Health’s obstetrics and gynecology department, underscored the ministry’s dedication to providing superior medical care for women and children. She discussed ongoing infrastructure improvements, including the establishment of new departments, clinics, and health centers dedicated to serving this vital demographic.
Dr. Khedher also highlighted the integration of cutting-edge surgical technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance health services in Kuwait, with continuous staff training to keep pace with technological advancements. She emphasized the importance of collaborating with international institutions to advance women’s healthcare, ensuring alignment with both the Ministry of Health’s directives and the nation’s developmental goals.
