Kuwait city: The Ministry of Health, represented by the Healthy Cities Office, has organized a GCC gathering as part of the final assessment of health-enhancing shopping malls engaged in the "Muazzaz" initiative. The meeting was held as a prelude to declaring names of the malls, designated as healthy for visitors in the GCC member countries.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Amal Al-Yahya, the office director, stated that the gathering was organized and supervised by the Joint Gulf Committee for Healthy Cities, under the auspices of the Riyadh-headquartered Gulf Health Council. Since the initiative's launch in Kuwait in 2023, up to six shopping malls have been designated as healthy. Jurists from Kuwait and other GCC countries are currently assessing three commercial complexes-Promenade, the Avenues, and 360-mall-that have accepted enrollment in the "Muazzaz" designation.
Ameera Al-Uraimi, representing Oman in the activity during her third visit to Kuwait, noted that Kuwait has developed guidelines for the initiative. She added that "Muazzaz" has been adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Abdullah Al-Thaman, the director of Al-Othman Dar, mentioned that the Promenade, the largest of the late Abdullah Abdulatif Al-Othman's inheritance properties, is a significant destination for shopping and leisure in Kuwait. The Promenade received "golden accreditation" in the first edition of the initiative, alongside three other malls, for a three-year term starting in June 2024. The Promenade was selected based on safety, visitor comfort, availability of healthy food, walking lanes, a skating hall, and facilities for babies, children, the elderly, and individuals with special needs.
Furthermore, the shopping complex hosts year-round campaigns for blood donations and promotes awareness against diseases such as cancer, along with a first aid section.
