Kuwait's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah met Monday morning with the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, on the sidelines of the 27th session of the Joint Ministerial Council between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the EU.
The GCC-EU meeting, scheduled to take place today and tomorrow in the Omani capital of Muscat.
During Sheikh Salem meeting with Borrell, the two sides conversed about the close historical ties between Kuwait and the EU and the frameworks for strengthening the strategic partnership in various vital fields, foremost of which is support for the steps taken in the file of complete exemption for Kuwaiti citizens from the Schengen visa, and increase trade exchange between them, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press statement.
The meeting also delved into current developments in the region, especially the repercussions of Iraqi Federal Supreme Court which ruled that the law ratifying the agreement regulating navigation in the Khor Abdullah waterway was unconstitutional, and Iraq's cancellation of the security swap protocol in Khor Abdullah with Kuwait, signed in 2008.
The two sides also discussed recent events taking place in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip along with ways to enhance joint cooperation and coordination in this context were discussed, as well as international efforts aimed at stopping the ongoing escalation and intensifying political efforts to maintain security and stability in the region.
