BEIRUT: The State of Kuwait has urged Iran to strengthen its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and fully adhere to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, in alignment with the UN Security Council Resolution 2231. This call was made during a session of the IAEA Board of Governors, where discussions focused on the verification and monitoring of Iran's nuclear facilities. According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Sara Al-Ajmi, the third secretary of the Kuwaiti mission, highlighted the concerns raised in the IAEA report issued on November 19. The report indicated that Iran's withdrawal from its nuclear commitments, which began three and a half years ago, has impacted the agency's ability to monitor and verify the nuclear activities in Iran as outlined by the UNSC resolution 2231 and the additional protocol. Dr. Al-Ajmi noted that Iran's dismantling of the IAEA's monitoring equipment has left the agency without knowledge regarding the output and operation of centrifuges. She expres sed hope that Iran would accept the additional protocol for inspections, which would allow the IAEA to provide credible assurances about the non-existence of undeclared nuclear materials and activities, ensuring Iran remains without nuclear weapons. Despite these concerns, Dr. Al-Ajmi affirmed the right of all nations to utilize nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, in accordance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
