Kuwait City: The Kuwaiti Cabinet has approved proposed amendments to Articles 188 and 230 of the Criminal Procedures and Trials Law, which aim to address practical issues affecting the course of justice.
According to Kuwait News Agency, in a press statement on Thursday, Minister of Justice Nasser Al-Sumait stated that the amendment to Article 188 will include electronic notification of judgments in absentia. This change is expected to expedite the notification process and reduce the length of litigation.
Al-Sumait further explained that the amendment to Article 230, concerning the accumulation of criminal fines, will allow the Public Prosecution to collect fines directly from the convicted person or by deducting up to a quarter of their salary. Additionally, there is an option to pay the amount in installments over a period of up to five years.
He emphasized that these amendments are designed to protect the public fund, enhance the enforcement of judgments, prevent convicts from evading punishment, and consolidate the rule of law. The changes also consider the human and realistic dimensions of convicts.
