Kuwait Breast Cancer Conference Serves as Scientific Platform, Says Health Minister

Kuwait city: The Kuwait breast cancer conference has been hailed as a scientific and humanitarian platform that emphasizes a culture prioritizing human health, according to Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Al-Awadhi, in his inaugural speech at the conference, highlighted efforts directed towards early detection and comprehensive treatment of breast cancer in alignment with global medical advancements. He referenced World Health Organization reports from 2022, which noted that over 2.3 million females globally were diagnosed with breast cancer. The minister further elaborated that this figure could rise to about 38 percent by 2050, as reported by The Lancet Magazine. These statistics underscore the importance of early detection, significantly increasing the chances of recovery; the American Cancer Society reports a five-year survival rate exceeding 99 percent when the disease is detected early.

The Ministry of Health has initiated a national early detection program for breast diseases across the six governorates. Rapid diagnosis clinics have been established at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center, providing test results within 48 hours. Additionally, oncology services have been launched at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, and specialized breast cancer surgeons are available.

Meanwhile, the conference head, Dr. Anwar Al-Nouri, stated that the event underscores the ministry's commitment to improving healthcare quality based on scientific evidence and staying abreast of advancements in breast cancer treatment. He noted that breast cancer accounts for 13 percent of cancer-related mortalities.
