Kuwait-Based Fund and UK Formulate MoUs for Aid to Sudan and Somalia

Kuwait city: The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and Britain's Foreign Office have signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to deliver humanitarian aid to Sudan and Somalia.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the partnership between KFAED and the UK's foreign office includes a humanitarian grant of USD 10 million, with both parties contributing equally. This grant will support UNICEF's efforts in Sudan, as detailed in a statement from the Kuwait-based fund.

A separate MoU outlines a USD 5 million grant for a joint project to support the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (ICRC) in Somalia. This initiative demonstrates KFAED's dedication to strengthening connections with international aid organizations. Waleed Al-Bahar, KFAED's acting chief, emphasized the collaborative nature of their relationship with the UK foreign office, aiming to address the needs of the most vulnerable.

ICRC's delegation head for Gulf Arab states, Mamadou Sow, described the grant for Somalia as more than just financial assistance, but a message of solidarity with the Somali people. In 2020, KFAED and the British foreign office had already established a broad agreement to provide urgent aid, improving living conditions for refugees and those affected by conflicts and natural disasters worldwide.
