Kuwait city: Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah held significant discussions with Attiya Warris, the UN Independent Expert on Foreign Debt, focusing on Kuwait's ongoing efforts in human rights and economic reform.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the meeting, which took place at the foreign ministry headquarters, emphasized Kuwait's initiatives to diversify income sources, enhance transparency, and promote sound governance. Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher highlighted the nation's achievements in human rights and economic sectors, attributing these advancements to state reforms aimed at sustainable development and ensuring economic and social rights for citizens, particularly in education, health, and labor sectors.
Sheikha Jawaher pointed out that these accomplishments align with the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. She reiterated Kuwait's commitment to social justice and sustainable development, consistent with its development vision, New Kuwait 2035. As a future member of the UN Human Rights Council (2024-2026), Kuwait aims to strengthen cooperation with the UN and its various agencies, including the Human Rights Council, to support these rights.
The ambassador also noted Kuwait's proactive role in supporting international and regional human rights initiatives and expressed the country's willingness to exchange expertise with the UN Independent Expert. This collaboration seeks to address issues like external debts and international financial obligations while continuing constructive dialogue with UN agencies to highlight national efforts and challenges.
Kuwait has organized a comprehensive program for the expert's visit, including engagements with the ministries of finance, commerce and industry, and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. Sheikha Jawaher reaffirmed Kuwait's readiness to collaborate with the UN expert, viewing the visit as a valuable opportunity to showcase national achievements and future plans in these areas.
