Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority Highlights Role in UN Conference on Corruption

Doha: The Assistant Secretary General for Prevention at Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), Engineer Abrar Al-Hammad, emphasized the significance of participating in the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (CoSP11) in Doha from December 15 to 19. The Authority was represented by a high-level delegation led by Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim, Chairman of the Authority, who addressed the conference on its opening day.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Ibrahim's speech underscored the need to focus on evaluating corruption risks, understanding the perceptions of corruption, and analyzing trends. He also stressed the importance of exploring the connections between corruption and its various patterns.

Al-Hammad took part in a session titled "Promoting Integrity and Accountability in Public Institutions," where she highlighted that work ethics are essential for ensuring integrity, justice, and transparency in institutions. She shared insights into Kuwait's efforts through Nazaha, noting that the Authority had conducted an analysis of the Code of Conduct in Kuwait, accompanied by interactive workshops across 70 entities. These workshops aimed to gather employee feedback, identify gaps, and address the challenges in understanding the legal language of the Code.

She further discussed the establishment of the "Adaa" project to enhance the applicability of the Code of Conduct. The Kuwait delegation also participated in various side events, including a session on transforming national anti-corruption strategies into practical implementation. During this session, they shared the success of the "Kuwait Strategy for Enhancing Integrity and Combating Corruption" project, which earned Kuwait the Arab Government Excellence Award for "Best Arab Initiative for Developing Government Work."

Additionally, Nazaha contributed to a session organized by the GlobE Network on beneficial ownership, discussing a guide prepared for the GCC countries to combat money laundering and terrorist financing through identification of beneficial ownership in companies.

Al-Hammad expressed gratitude to Qatar for hosting the conference and acknowledged Kuwait's early involvement in drafting and ratifying the UN Convention against Corruption. She thanked Qatar for its hospitality and organization of the event.
