Kuwait and China Sign Contract for Mina Abdullah Port Project

Kuwait city: Under the aegis of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Kuwait and China have signed an engineering-supply-construction contract to build Mina Mubarak Al-Kabeer port on Boubyan Island. The signing ceremony took place on Monday, with the Prime Minister attending along with Minister of Public Works Dr. Nora Al-Mashaan and Chen Zhong, deputy chairman of the Chinese Company for Communications and Construction.

According to Kuwait News Agency, His Highness the Prime Minister highlighted the strong Kuwait-China relations, which are founded on mutual political respect and shared interests. He emphasized the joint commitment to enhancing constructive cooperation and elevating bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. The signing of the contract marks a significant step in this direction, coinciding with the second anniversary of His Highness the Amir's leadership.

The Mina Mubarak Al-Kabeer port project is considered a strategic element in Kuwait's economic development plans. His Highness the Prime Minister noted that the port will bolster Kuwait's role in regional and international trade and contribute to the global supply chain. The project aligns with the neo Kuwait vision, aiming to diversify the economic base, increase national income, and create work opportunities in related sectors.

Minister Al-Mashaan described the signing as a cornerstone for cooperation and the realization of previously signed agreements. She stated that the port will serve as an economic hub and logistical center, expected to enhance marine transport infrastructure and national port capacities.

Chinese acting charge d'affaires, Lie Xiang, linked the deal to the "belt and road initiative," while Chen Zhong committed to adhering to high standards in executing the project. The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including the First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, and other ministers and state officials.
