Kuwait City: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, along with His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, visited the Kuwait Disabled Sport Club (KDSC) on Tuesday evening. The visit was part of an initiative to recognize and support athletes with disabilities in Kuwait.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Amir was welcomed by Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Sport Bashar Abdullah Al-Salem, and KDSC Board Chairman Shafi Al-Hajeri. During his visit, His Highness the Amir extended Ramadan wishes to the audience, expressing hope for blessings and prosperity for Kuwait and the broader Arab and Muslim world.
His Highness the Amir reiterated the state's commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities, referring to them as "heroes" and "badges on our chests." He praised their determination and resilience, emphasizing their role as a source of inspiration for all citizens. The Amir highlighted Kuwait's early legislative measures to ensure the wellbeing of people with disabilities, covering aspects such as health, education, sports, and training.
The Amir took pride in the accomplishments of Kuwaiti athletes with disabilities on the international stage, encouraging them to continue their training and urging state bodies to support and enhance their skills. He acknowledged the state's efforts in building the capacity of disabled athletes through collaboration with regional and international organizations.
KDSC Chairman Shafi Al-Hajeri, speaking on behalf of the Club's members and management, expressed Ramadan wishes to His Highness the Amir and other dignitaries. He recounted the Club's achievements since its inception in 1977, noting the increase in the number of Kuwaiti athletes with disabilities participating in international Paralympic events. Al-Hajeri highlighted the successes of athletes such as shotput gold medalist Faisal Sorour and bronze medalist Faisal Al-Rajehi in the 5000m wheelchair race at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
Al-Hajeri expressed gratitude for the Amir's visit and pledged that the Club would continue its efforts to nurture the skills of its members, ensuring ongoing success in future competitions.
