Kuwait City: Under the patronage and in the presence of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and with the attendance of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, a ceremony was held at Bayan Palace on Monday to honor Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award winners of the 24th edition of 2024. His Highness the Amir arrived at the venue and was warmly welcomed by Head of the Award Board of Trustees Sheikha Ayda Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah and members of the organizing committee.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Sheikha Ayda Salem Al-Sabah, addressing the ceremony, remembered the late founder of the award, Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, noting his vision and wisdom in anticipating the significance of technologies. She highlighted that the progress made over less than a quarter century is the result of Amiri directives, commending His Highness the Amir for his patronage of this award.
Dr. Taher Ameen Al-Jamal, the award winner, expressed his pleasure at being in Kuwait and receiving the Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award, describing it as a beacon in digital societies. He spoke of his fortune in working with leading scientists in the field of encryption, gaining insights during his doctoral study with Prof. Hellman. His tenure at RSA Security allowed him to contribute to making encryption practical and effective, which later enabled him to join Netscape Communications Corporation with a strong grasp of emerging global digital needs.
He remarked that the SSL protocol, now known as TLS, marks a turning point in digital communications security. He expressed his satisfaction in being a part of building the digital society, with his work at Netscape making him a key contributor to cybersecurity. His Highness the Amir then honored the winners of the Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award and received a souvenir on the occasion.
