Kurdistan Region President and Global Coalition Commander Discuss Regional Security

Irbil: President of the Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, and Commander of the Global Coalition forces in Iraq and Syria, General Kevin Leahy, affirmed the necessity of safeguarding Middle Eastern security and stability. This assertion came during a meeting between Barzani and Leahy, alongside his accompanying delegation.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the discussion focused on the political and security situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the relations between Irbil and Baghdad, the reform and unification process of the Peshmerga forces, and the ongoing threat posed by ISIS and extremist activities across Iraq and Syria.

Both parties agreed that ISIS remains a persistent danger and emphasized the need for continued coordination and joint efforts between Iraqi and Peshmerga forces and the international coalition to counter the terrorist organization. Barzani expressed his gratitude to the coalition for their role in countering terrorism in the region.
