Moscow: The Kremlin announced on Monday that the anticipated summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump could serve as a genuine opportunity to advance a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Kremlin emphasized the importance of the summit for discussing bilateral ties and key international issues. It highlighted that achieving lasting peace in Ukraine necessitates balanced approaches from all involved parties.
The Kremlin's statement pointed out "Kyiv's inconsistent stance" as a factor hindering comprehensive political solutions. It also reaffirmed Russia's commitment to dialogue and direct negotiations.
The statement mentioned that Budapest was chosen to host the summit due to strong ties between the two presidents and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. However, full preparations for the meeting have yet to begin.
It was noted that Putin and Trump last spoke on October 16 during their eighth call of the year, which lasted around two and a half hours. Following the call, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed plans to initiate preparations for the summit, likely to take place in the Hungarian capital.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also confirmed the formation of a special committee to organize the summit, expressing hope that it would contribute to advancing peace efforts in Ukraine.
