Jordan Follows Up on Detained Al-Sumud Activists, Affirms the Kuwaitis Are Well

Amman: The Jordanian Foreign Ministry, while following up on the condition of Jordanians and citizens of brotherly countries on board the seized Al-Sumud flotilla bound for Gaza, affirmed that the Kuwaiti citizens involved in the disrupted humanitarian mission were in good condition. Fuad Al-Majali, the ministry's official spokesperson, stated that the department staff pursued necessary measures to ensure the safety of the Jordanians and citizens of the brotherly countries who were in the small fleet that carried aid to Gaza.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the official statement coincided with reports that the Israeli occupation forces intercepted the 45 boats laden with humanitarian supplies for the Gazans at sea, arrested the activists, and held them against their will in the occupation entity. Jordan is seeking to ensure their rights and secure their safe return to Jordan as soon as possible, the spokesperson said, alluding to the detained Jordanians.

He revealed that the Jordanian charge d'affaires visited the detention centers where the activists were kept and ensured the Kuwaitis and Mauritanians were in good health. The visit was in response to a request by their states to inquire about their condition, he explained. The detained Jordanians are in good health as well, Al-Majali said, re-stating that the ministry holds the Israeli occupation authorities responsible for the safety of the Jordanian citizens, stressing the necessity to respect their legal rights and ensure their return home safely.

In Kuwait, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement, expressing strong condemnation and denunciation of the Israeli occupation forces' interception and storming of the Global Al-Sumud Flotilla, which carried humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. It affirmed Kuwait's keenness to ensure the safety of its citizens who were onboard the intercepted vessels and work to return them to their homeland.

The flotilla carried food and necessary supplies for the Gazans, victims of aggression of genocide and hunger since early October 2023. Some 66,000 Gazans have been killed, and scores of others wounded in the ongoing aggression, waged amid the tight siege of the enclave. The United Nations has affirmed that famine has set in in the strip, where many children, elderly, and sick people have died of hunger or poor nutrition.
