Japanese PM and New US Ambassador Commit to Strengthening Alliance

Tokyo: Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and the new US Ambassador to Japan, George Glass, agreed on Tuesday to further strengthen the Japan-US alliance, focusing on enhancing deterrence and response capabilities, as stated by Japan's Foreign Ministry.

According to Kuwait News Agency, during their first meeting in Tokyo since Glass's arrival last week, Prime Minister Ishiba emphasized the importance of deepening discussions to fortify the alliance and contribute globally. He expressed a desire for mutually beneficial cooperation, describing the alliance as the "cornerstone of Japan's diplomacy and security." Ambassador Glass echoed this sentiment, highlighting the significance of the Japan-US alliance and agreeing on the need to enhance its deterrence and response capabilities while minimizing the impact on local communities.

Ishiba and Glass also discussed current bilateral relations, including US tariff measures under President Trump's administration. Ishiba expressed a commitment to broad cooperation that benefits both nations, a view to which Glass concurred.

After the talks, Ambassador Glass spoke to reporters, expressing optimism about the Japan-US tariff negotiations. He noted the collaboration of top experts from both nations to strengthen their economies and anticipated reaching an agreement. Furthermore, Glass emphasized their joint efforts towards peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, expressing confidence in building a safer, more secure, and peaceful future in the area.
