Japan, UK Commit to Strengthening Security Ties

Tokyo: Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Thursday agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation as each other's closest partners in Asia and Europe as they exchanged views on regional affairs, Japan's Defense Ministry said.

According to Kuwait News Agency, during their meeting in Tokyo, Nakatani and Lammy also shared the recognition that the security of Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific is inseparable. This understanding underscores the growing importance of global cooperation in addressing regional security challenges.

Furthermore, the two ministers welcomed the strengthening of Japan-UK security cooperation. This includes the deployment of a carrier strike group to the Indo-Pacific region this year, highlighting the commitment of both nations to maintaining stability in the region.

The discussion also touched upon the Global Combat Air Program, a trilateral project involving Italy, which aims to develop a next-generation fighter aircraft by 2035. This initiative represents a significant step in fostering technological advancements and defense capabilities among the participating countries.
