Tokyo: Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung have confirmed their commitment to developing stable relations between the two nations, as announced by Japan's Foreign Ministry. This agreement was reached during a 25-minute telephone conversation, marking their first direct communication since President Lee's inauguration on June 4.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the two leaders emphasized the importance of bilateral and trilateral coordination involving Japan, South Korea, and the United States, especially in the context of an increasingly challenging strategic environment. Both leaders expressed their intention to meet in person soon and underscored the necessity of maintaining close communication between their governments.
Prime Minister Ishiba expressed his desire to further enhance Japan-Korea relations, building on the foundations established through mutual efforts. President Lee's rise to office came after a snap election, following the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol over a failed martial law attempt in December.
