Kuwait city: The Israeli occupation government announced on Saturday its readiness to initiate the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan. This phase includes the release of all prisoners held in Gaza over the past years.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office stated that, following a positive response from Hamas, preparations are underway to implement the ceasefire plan proposed by US President Donald Trump. The plan aims to address ongoing hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
The statement further mentioned that the Israeli government will continue collaborating with the US administration to end the conflict, adhering to its principles and in line with President Trump's vision. The Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, declared on Friday its agreement to release all Israeli prisoners, living and deceased, based on the exchange formula proposed by President Trump.
Trump's proposal, which was announced earlier this week, sets a deadline for Hamas to approve the plan by 6 pm Washington time (2200 GMT) on Sunday. The plan outlines the transformation of Gaza into a weapons-free zone, along with a transitional governance mechanism, and calls for the release of both Israeli and hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
The Israeli occupation has enforced a blockade on Gaza, which is home to approximately 2.4 million people, for nearly 18 years. The region has also been subjected to aggressive attacks since October 2023.
