Israeli Occupation Forces Detain Mufti of Jerusalem

Jerusalem: The Israeli occupation forces arrested the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, at the gate of Al-Aqsa Mosque after the Friday noon prayers.

According to Kuwait News Agency, a special forces' unit of the Israeli occupation forces stormed the holy mosque in Jerusalem and escorted the Grand Mufti to Bab Al-Magharebah, also known as The Moroccan Gate. This action was confirmed by a brief statement from the Directorate of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem Affairs. The arrest followed a sermon delivered by Sheikh Hussein, during which he criticized the Israeli policy regarding the residents of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli authorities detained the Grand Mufti for a short period before releasing him. However, he has been barred from returning to Al-Aqsa Mosque until further interrogations, which are scheduled for Sunday, as reported by local sources.
