Jerusalem: Israeli occupation forces raided on Sunday the homes of Palestinian prisoners who are expected to be released under a ceasefire agreement mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. The raid involved searching properties, damaging contents, and issuing threats to families against engaging with media or organizing receptions for the released detainees.
According to Kuwait News Agency, local sources reported that the raids were conducted on several homes. The Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) cited these local sources, detailing the actions of the Israeli forces and the impact on the families involved. The raids come in the context of a truce agreement that stipulates the release of 250 prisoners serving life sentences and 1,700 others detained after October 7, in exchange for 20 living Israeli captives and 28 bodies.
In response to these actions, the Palestinian Center for Prisoners' Defense issued a statement urging the United Nations, its Secretary-General, and the High Commissioner for Human Rights to take effective measures to stop these violations. They also called for international protection for the thousands of detainees.
Under the terms of the truce, prisoners set for release in the West Bank are being transferred to Ofer Prison. Others, who face deportation, have been moved to the Negev facility. Families of those to be deported have been notified that their relatives will be sent to Egypt via the Rafah border crossing with Gaza.
