Beirut: Israeli occupation forces executed two assaults on United Nations peacekeeping forces in Lebanon on Sunday. This incident involved an Israeli drone and a tank targeting UNIFIL patrols near Kfar Kila, as confirmed by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
According to Kuwait News Agency, the attacks commenced around 5:45 p.m. when an Israeli drone approached a UNIFIL patrol and released a grenade. Shortly thereafter, an Israeli tank fired at the peacekeepers. Fortunately, no injuries or damage were reported as a result of these actions.
The UNIFIL statement highlighted that the attacks were preceded by an earlier provocative incident involving an Israeli drone flying aggressively over the peacekeepers, prompting them to employ defensive measures to neutralize the threat.
UNIFIL emphasized that these actions violate Security Council Resolution 1701 and infringe upon Lebanon's sovereignty. Additionally, the assaults demonstrate a lack of concern for the safety and security of peacekeepers performing their duties in southern Lebanon under the mandate of the Security Council.
