Iraqi Court Delays Khor Abdullah Agreement Appeals Until Late April

Baghdad: Iraq's Federal Supreme Court has delayed the review of appeals concerning the Khor Abdullah agreement between Kuwait and Baghdad, submitted by Iraqi President Abdullatif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Sudani. The appeals, initially scheduled for Tuesday, have been postponed until April 30th.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the court's schedule indicates that these sessions will proceed as postponed sessions without any pleadings. The court has not provided any explanation for the postponement.

President Abdullatif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani filed separate appeals against a previous Federal Supreme Court decision. This decision declared the bilateral agreement, which regulates navigation in the Khor Abdullah waterway between Baghdad and Kuwait, unconstitutional. In September 2023, the court's ruling on the agreement was criticized by Kuwait as it allegedly contained "historical fallacies."
