Kuwait city: Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service: Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) announced on Friday the killing of a leader of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in an operation inside Syrian territory carried out in coordination with the International Coalition forces. CTS said in a statement that the operation was carried out today and "resulted in the killing of terrorist Omar Bassam, also known as 'Abdul Rahman al-Halabi,' who held the position of head of operations and external security in ISIS."

According to Kuwait News Agency, the targeted leader was involved in the bombing of the Iranian embassy in Lebanon and attempts to carry out other terrorist operations in Europe and the US, the statement added. The strike represents a major strategic loss for ISIS, following a series of successful operations over the past two months that resulted in the killing of more than six top ISIS leaders.
