Baghdad: The two ordinary summits held in Baghdad have resulted in significant resolutions following in-depth discussions on critical political, social, and economic issues, Iraq's Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced on Saturday. Speaking at a joint press conference with Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit, Hussein emphasized that the Palestinian cause was the central focus of the summit's political agenda.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the leaders at the 34th Arab Summit expressed steadfast support for Palestinian rights and opposed any actions that threaten sanctities and peace prospects. The summit also addressed crises in several Arab countries, emphasizing the importance of political solutions that uphold national unity and sovereignty, while rejecting foreign interference.
As the current president of the summit, Iraq praised Oman's ongoing mediation efforts between the US and Iran, highlighting its role in reducing regional tensions and fostering social security. Hussein proposed the formation of an open-membership Arab committee, led by him, to manage regional crises and disputes through flexible diplomatic channels emphasizing dialogue and unity among Arab nations.
In the context of the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, Hussein stated that the discussions centered on advancing economic integration and fostering collaboration in sustainable development, education, energy, innovation, and AI. The summit underscored the need to enhance trade, support the private sector, and implement strategic projects aimed at economic growth and job creation to improve living conditions in Arab countries.
Hussein reiterated Iraq's commitment to implementing the summit's resolutions within constitutional frameworks and highlighted Baghdad's hosting of the summits as a testament to Iraq's restored role and stability within the Arab region. This stability is seen as a foundation for attracting investments and expanding developmental relations with neighboring and friendly nations.
A central focus of the leaders' discussions was the Palestinian issue, with calls for an immediate ceasefire of Israeli aggression in Gaza and the unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid throughout Palestine. The final communique also addressed other regional issues, particularly in Libya, Syria, Sudan, Yemen, and Somalia, emphasizing the need to support national stability and sovereignty.
Hussein also mentioned Iraq's economic and social development summit initiatives and announced Iraq's donation of USD 40 million to the Arab fund, with half allocated for humanitarian efforts and rebuilding in Gaza and the remainder for reconstruction in Lebanon. Abul-Gheit expressed gratitude to Iraq for the successful organization of the summits, marking the first time Baghdad hosted both political and economic gatherings.
