Iraq confirmed today, Monday, its position calling for a cease-fire in Sudan and allowing the arrival of humanitarian aid.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: “The Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ambassador Abdul Karim Hashem Mustafa, participated in the (36) special session of the Human Rights Council regarding the impact of the conflict in Sudan on human rights, and the Ambassador delivered a speech in which he explained Iraq’s position calling for an immediate cease-fire and to allow the arrival of humanitarian aid.

The Ambassador praised, according to the statement, “the Arab initiatives aimed at pushing the two parties to the conflict in Sudan to a ceasefire and start dialogue as the only solution to get out of this serious crisis, and to avoid escalation in order to preserve civil peace and serve the interests of the brotherly Sudanese people.”
