Baghdad: Iraq has taken over the presidency of the fifth session of the Arab Development Summit from Lebanon, which chaired the previous session. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani addressed the summit, emphasizing the upcoming summit as an opportunity to propel sustainable development goals and harness human capital for a regional renaissance.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Sudani proposed several initiatives aimed at addressing regional challenges. These include the Arab Initiative for Food Security in Grains, the Baghdad Initiative for Environmental Cooperation, and measures to support disaster victims and enhance housing security.
He further advocated for compliance with Financial Action Task Force standards and the establishment of an Arab Center for the Protection of the Environment from War Remnants, as well as an Arab Center for Artificial Intelligence in Baghdad.
Al-Sudani also proposed creating a Joint Arab Security Coordination Room to combat terrorism, drug trafficking, and organized crime. Additionally, he highlighted Iraq's proposal to form a Council of Arab Trade Ministers to coordinate and oversee Arab trade, addressing both regional and international challenges.
The prime minister underscored Iraq's commitment to the nation and its causes by launching the Arab Solidarity Fund initiative for the reconstruction of Gaza and Lebanon, under the supervision of the League.
